Welcome to the
2011 Gettysburg
May Bluegrass Festival

Q: How can I get more information about either of the Gettysburg festivals?

A: If the many pages of our web site do not answer all of your questions, give us a call on the telephone at (717)642-8749. Call anytime from 9 AM to 9 PM, seven days a week, except Friday evenings.

Q: Are campsites with "hookups" available for advance reservation?

A: Yes. We accept advance reservation on about half of our hookup campsites. The other half are available on a first come-first served basis. If you reserve a campsite in advance, your must purchase at least two 4-day tickets, reserve for at least 4 nights (Wed thru Sat), and prepay the entire amount in full when reservation is made.

Q: What if I want a hookup campsite but cannot arrive until Thursday?

A: We recommend that you purchase your tickets in advance to save that money, then plan to arrive as early on Thursday as possible after our gate opens at 8 AM. You will pay your camping fee on arrival, and we will assign you to the best available campsite remaining at that time.

Q: What are my chances of getting a hookup if I arrive Thursday? Friday?

A: Only one time in the past 38 festivals have we run out of hookups prior to Thursday. We usually have sites available through most of Thursday. On Friday, it is highly unlikely that you will get a hookup, but there will be plenty of "rough" camping avialble.

Q: What if I arrive, and there are no hookups left?

A: We will have plenty of "rough" camping available. We have never run out of RV parking space. You may run your generator, we have plenty of good drinking water sources to fill your tank, and we have bath houses and dumping stations on site. If that is not satisfactory, there are two additional RV parks within three miles where you can camp and commute each morning to our free day parking lot.

Q: What is available to entertain our children?

A: Granite Hill has a swimming pool, tennis court, two stocked fishing ponds, a fabulous Adventure Golf Course, playgrounds, a game room with arcade machines, and there is a big sand pile for the toddlers right next to the main stage. At Granite Hill the kids seem to find ways to entertain themselves.

Q: What is tent camping like at the festival?

A: All tent or "rough" sites are assigned on a first come-first served basis. Early arrivers will have the choice of our beautiful wooded sites with table and fire rings, or a nice open grassy field that is kept mowed all season long. The woods go early, so plan to arrive as early in the week as possible. Remember, Granite is a full service campground with modern bath facilities and things to do all season long.

Q: Are pets permitted during the festival?

A: While it is the normal policy of Granite Hill Campground to allow most pets, the following restrictions are necessary during FESTIVAL WEEK, from the previous Sunday until the show ends on Sunday: Small dogs of approximately 30 lb. or less are permitted at your RV campsite, and in designated 'walk' areas only. They are not permitted in the concert area or any public area of the campground (playgrounds, ball fields, etc.) the entire festival week. Dogs must be leashed, and may not be left unattended outside of a camper, whether leashed or not. Since it would be cruel to leave any pet inside a closed up tent or auto, they are not permitted at tents sites, rough camping area, or in the day parking lot. AT ALL TIMES, our campground insurance requires that all breeds of dogs, known to be of a vicious nature, are specifically prohibited on the property at any time the campground is open. These include, but may not be limited to, 'pit bulls', rotwielers, doberman pnchers, etc. Snakes and any other pets that may be viewed as either dangerous or repulsive to our customers, are prohibited at all times. Barking dogs, or pets otherwise causing a nuisance, will not be permitted to stay.

Q: What are the gate hours?

A: The gate is fully open from 8AM to 12 Midnight each day. If you arrive for the first time while the gate is closed, you will be required to wait for the gate to open at 8 o'clock to check in, whether you have already purchased a ticket or not. There is adequate parking in the driveway so you can nap while waiting for the gate to reopen. Once you have checked in and have your wrist band and your camping car pass properly displayed, you will be able to come and go 24 hours a day by showing your wrist band to the security guard on duty.

Q: Since camping is charged by the vehicle, rather than by the person, will my spouse have to pay again if she comes later in her car?

A: If your hookup campsite is occupied by just two people, you will not be charged for the second car, provided that you advise us of the second car when your FIRST vehicle checks in at the gate. No refund if you fail to do that. In rough camping, each vehicle is charged regardless of the number of people since the fee is already reduced 50% from the regular rate.

Q: Is seating provided or must we bring our own?

A: Both the main stage and workshop stage are 'lawn seating'. The festival provides no chairs. Bring your folding chair if you want to get as close to the stage as possible. If you prefer a blanket or lounge chair, you will be required to sit near the back or sides of the seating area.

Q: Is there cover for the audience in case of rain or hot sun?

A: Most of the seating is on a nice grassy slope without cover or trees to block your view of the stage. Some cover is provided by a very large tent at the back of the main stage audience, as well as by our adjacent shuffleboard pavilion. The workshop stage is under a nice tent that provides cover for those sitting closest to the stage, then the lawn slopes nicely up and away for those who prefer to be outside and back from the stage.

Q: Are there any special rules for the festival?

A: Yes, we have special festival rules for Motorcycles and Dogs.

While motorcycles are welcome at Granite Hill at other times, we cannot permit them on premises during festival week.

Dogs are not permitted in the rough camping areas, any public area including the store and concession areas, playgrounds and concert area, golf and pond areas, bath houses, or the day parking lot. Small dogs under 30 lbs can stay in RV campers, but must be walked at the edge of the campground and kept at the campsite during the entire festival week. They cannot be left tied up outside camper. They must stay inside camper in owners absence. If a dog causes a nuisance, it will have to leave the campground at once. No dogs over 30 lbs permitted anywhere in camp during the festival week, starting the Monday before and ending the Monday after the festival. No vicious breeds ever allowed at Granite Hill. This includes pit bulls, dobermans, rotweilers, and any dog trained to attack.
