Announcing the 56th Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival

If you did not receive the January 2008 e-Newsletter we would like to announce to you the 56th Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival lineup to be held May 15-18th at Granite Hill Camping Resort. We feel the line-up is as strong as ever and as such, 2008 will be another exciting year for bluegrass in Gettysburg. If you caught this year's International Bluegrass Music Association awards you will recognize a number of award recipients on Gettysburg's bill. The Grascals, who took home the prized 2007 Entertainer of the Year Award for the second year running will be performing at both the May and August Festivals in 2008. 7-Time Female Vocalist of the Year recipient, Rhonda Vincent, will also be performing with her band, The Rage, at both the 56th and 57th Festivals. 2007 IBMA Instrumental Group of the Year, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, will once again grace the Gettysburg Main Stage this May. The 56th Festival also welcomes the return of Grammy Award Winning Dan Tyminski. Dan, who previously performed many times at Gettysburg with Alison Krauss and Union Station, will present the Dan Tyminski Band for the first time to Gettysburg fans. The legendary banjoist, J.D. Crowe & the News South also return again for 2008. Former Emerging Artist of the Year, the Steep Canyon Rangers first performed at Gettysburg in May 2006 and will return for both Festivals in 2008.

Among other luminaries appearing at Gettysburg in 2008 are multiple Dobro Player of the Year Awardee, Rob Ickes, with Blue Highway, and Hall of Honor Members, The Lewis Family. And we would be most remiss if we were not to mention that the legendary Ron Thomason and his Dry Branch Fire Squad will be appearing for the 56th and 57th time on Gettysburg's Stage and the Grammy Nominated Seldom Scene, truly a "National Treasure" will appear for the 55th and 56th times. Many Thanks to these long servants of bluegrass and a heartfelt appreciation to you long suffering Gettysburg fans !

2007 Kids Academy a Smash Hit Again!

We are thrilled to announce that the Gettysburg Bluegrass Academy for Kids, presented for the sixth time August 23-26, 2007, saw our largest Academy enrollment to date. The next Kids Academy is set for August 21-24, 2008. After an orientation session Thursday evening, the kids attended four two hour classes Friday and Saturday, a practice session Sunday morning, and then a 20 minute Main Stage performance Sunday afternoon. The audience was thrilled to see these kids fill our main stage with joy and music and they gave the kids a standing ovation! What a thrill for everyone! The Kids Academy is open to kids from Kindergarten through 12th grades, all ability levels, and all standard bluegrass stringed instruments - fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo, bass and dobro.

Our committed Academy Director, Ira Gitlin, and his excellent and devoted instructors thoroughly enjoy working with the youngsters. And, thanks to the generosity of C. F. Martin Company, Eastman Strings, and the unselfish dedication of our faculty, the fee for the Kids Academy is kept very low. Just email us or call for a special flyer and registration form.

Don't wait too long to register, as each class size is limited and could fill up early for Seventh Anuual Academy, to be held August 21-24, 2008.
